About the role
We build the internal tools that keep a busy agricultural business moving, from recruitment and onboarding to production reporting and integrations with our ERP.
As Software Developer you will join a small, pragmatic team and work across the stack. You will turn real problems raised by colleagues into reliable software, writing clean, tested and maintainable code and shipping often.
We value sound engineering judgement, clear communication and a willingness to learn the business. You do not need to know agriculture, but you will pick up a lot about it.
Responsibilities
Design, build, test and deploy features for internal web applications.
Develop REST APIs and integrate with third party and ERP systems.
Write automated tests and take part in code reviews.
Maintain and improve database schemas, queries and performance.
Work with users to gather requirements and turn them into clear technical tasks.
Maintain CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments.
Monitor applications, investigate bugs and fix production issues.
Write and maintain technical documentation.
Follow secure coding practices and protect personal information in line with POPIA.
Preferred
- Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
Required
- Three years of professional software development experience
- Python and Django or a comparable web framework
- SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL
- JavaScript, HTML and CSS
- Git version control and code review workflows
- Building and consuming REST APIs
Preferred
- Docker, containers and CI/CD pipelines
- Celery, Redis or background task processing
- Experience with automated testing, pytest or unit tests
- Understanding of POPIA and secure handling of personal information
